Synchronization

How do I sync data among multiple iOS and Android devices?

You can connect Baby Tracker Server, create a sync group, and let all devices join this sync group. The data will be synced between all devices that joined this group.

Step 1: Create a Sync Group.

You need to create the sync group on the device that has all the data.
  1. Go to app Settings > Backup & Sync
  2. Select Connect to Baby Tracker Server.
    • If the device is linked to the cloud, you need to disconnect from the cloud first
  3. Tap Create a Group on the bottom
  4. Enter email address and password. The email address must be a valid email address where we can send you a temporary password when you need to reset your password.
  5. Tap the top right OK button to create a sync group.

Step 2: Join the Sync Group

On other devices, you join the sync group
  1. Go to app Settings > Backup & Sync
  2. Select Connect to Baby Tracker Server.
    • If the device is linked to the cloud, you need to disconnect from the cloud first
  3. Enter email address and password.
  4. Tap the top right OK button to join the sync group.

My device is disconnected with a merge error message, what should I do?

If the sync is disabled with a merge error message, please disconnect all devices first. Then on the device that has all the data, login with the Reset group option on. After doing this, you can try to login to this group on all devices again.

How do I sync data among multiple iOS devices using the cloud (no Android devices)?

You can use iCloud or Dropbox as cloud backend to sync data. To use iCloud, all devices must be using the same iCloud account, family share does not work.
If you can not use the same iCloud account on both devices, you can try to setup sync with Dropbox.

Step 1: Link to cloud

To sync multiple iOS devices, you must first link your devices to your existing cloud service. All devices must be linked to same iCloud account or Dropbox account.

  • For iCloud, all devices must be logged into the same iCloud account from System Settings > iCloud, and enabled for iCloud usage from Settings > iCloud > Documents & Data, before setting up syncing.
  • For Dropbox, Baby Tracker also must be linked to the same Dropbox account. If you have installed the Dropbox client on your device, but are using different accounts, you can tap Use another account on the Dropbox link page to allow Baby Tracker links to the same account on different devices.
  1. Go to app Settings > Backup and Sync
  2. Turn on Link to Cloud
  3. Select iCloud or Dropbox, and then tap the top right OK button to confirm.

(Please note: Dropbox will ask you to log in at this time, while iCloud needs to be turned on from system settings prior to this step.)

Step 2: Create group

The next step to sync your data is to use one device to create a sync group. Typically, this must be the device with the most data, as data on other devices will be overwritten upon joining the sync group.

  1. Go to Settings > Backup and Sync and make sure Link to Cloud is turned on.
  2. Tap Synchronization.
  3. On Synchronization page, turn on Synchronization.
  4. Enter a group name, then tap Create New Group.

Step 3: Join the group

The last step is joining the group from another device.

Warning: All data on this device will be overwritten upon joining the sync group!

  1. If the sync group has just been created, please wait about five minutes before starting work on another device.
  2. On another device, go to Settings > Backup and Sync and make sure Link to Cloud is turned on.
  3. Tap Synchronization.
  4. On Synchronization page, turn on Synchronization.
  5. Wait a few moments as Baby Tracker retrieves information from the cloud.
  6. Under the option to Join an existing group, you will see the group name that was just created. Tap to join.

Now the two devices are in sync mode.

How many devices can join the sync group?

In theory, there is no limit on devices. In our test environment, we have directly tested up to 4 devices in a single sync group.

Why does the app use so much space after I linked to Dropbox?

Dropbox will use approximately 500 MB to cache data. Baby Tracker does not have any control over this. As an alternative, you can consider using iCloud, or only use Data Clone to copy records between devices.

I have installed the Dropbox app on my device, and it links to a different account, how can I link Baby Tracker to another account?

Once the Dropbox app is installed on your device and you link the Baby Tracker app to Dropbox, the default Dropbox account will be used. If you have a different default account on your devices, you can tap “Use a different account” on the link page, and select a shared account.

My iCloud syncing is not working, what should I do?

Here are some troubleshooting steps:

  1. Make sure all your devices are logged into the same iCloud account.
    Settings > iCloud > Account
  2. Check if iCloud is working on Apple’s System Status
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/systemstatus/
  3. Make sure to set the time automatically on all your devices:
Settings > General > Date & Time > Set Automatically
  4. Check that you can see Baby Tracker iCloud documents listed in the iCloud settings:
    Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > Manage Storage > BabyTracker
  5. Try turning Documents & Data in iCloud settings off, restarting, then turning it back on. Restart your phone by holding down the power and home button for several seconds.
  6. Make sure to remove any old MobileMe account from your phone settings that was left over when migrating to iCloud.
  7. Some users have reported that turning off passbook will fix this issue.
    Settings -> iCloud -> Passbook
We also suggest you use our new Baby Tracker Server, it’s more consistently reliable.

Backup and restore

I connected to Baby Tracker Server, why can I not see the backup button?

If you connect to Baby Tracker Server, the app will not show the backup feature. You do not need to backup your data, your data will backup on our server automatically.

What cloud services does Baby Tracker support?

Baby Tracker supports iCloud and Dropbox.

How can I set up auto-backup to prevent data loss?

First, you need to link your device to your existing backup cloud service:

  1. Go to Settings > Backup and Sync
  2. Turn on Link to Cloud
  3. Select iCloud or Dropbox, and then tap the top right OK button to confirm
(Please note: Dropbox will ask you to log in at this time, while iCloud needs to be turned on from system settings prior to this step.)
From there, you can turn on Auto Backup Daily

If I turn on Auto Backup Daily, how many backup files will Baby Tracker keep?

Baby Tracker will keep backup files from the last 7 days.

How do I restore data from a backup?

  1. Go to Settings > Backup and Sync to make sure your Link to Cloud is turned on.
  2. Under the Choose a backup to restore... section, select the correct backup by tapping it.
Please note that restoring a backup will override all current data on your device.

Why I can’t restore data when sync is turned on?

Baby Tracker does not support data restore in sync mode. Before restoring any data, you have to turn off sync from Settings > Backup and Sync > Synchronization(if you connected to Baby Tracker Server, it’s Settings > Backup & Sync > Disconnect). Please note that you only can restore data to one device, not all devices in the sync group.

Data Clone

When should I use data clone instead of synchronization?

If you log data only on one device, but you need to share the data to another device, you can use data clone.

  • Data clone will not use your network data plan if you import/export cloned data via Wi-Fi.
  • Compared to syncing, data clone reduces data cache usage for reduced app space.
You also can use data clone as a backup by exporting the cloned data via email, and importing it later as a restore.

How can I clone data?

On the source device, go to Settings > Export Data Clone. Select the method that you want to use, either Airdrop or email.

On the receiving device:

  • For AirDrop:
    1. Accept the shared file snapshot.btcp.
    2. System will auto open Baby Tracker.
    3. App will show a confirm warning:
"All data on this device will be overwritten by this imported clone data. Do you want to proceed?"
Tap Clone option to confirm the clone process.
      For more AirDrop help: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5887
  • For Email:
    1. Open the mail. If the attachment has not been downloaded, tap to download.
    2. After downloading, tap the attachment again, and then select Open in Baby Tracker.
    3. System will auto open Baby Tracker.
    4. App will show a confirm warning:
"All data on this device will be overwritten by this imported clone data. Do you want to proceed?"
Tap Clone option to confirm the clone process.

What is inventory on the pumping information? How can I adjust it?

The inventory = Total pumped breast milk amount - Total bottle-fed breast milk amount.
If the inventory is < 0, the app will not show it.

You can adjust the inventory amount in case the calculation is incorrect. The simplest way to adjust the inventory is using the pumping record with pumping amount 0.

How can I access records from more than 2 weeks ago?

The day tracker provides a convenient way to see recent records up to 2 weeks old, and for records older than 2 weeks just tap the time label at the top of the screen and use the date wheel to change the review day.

The app shows my baby’s age one day behind. My son is 13 days old and the app says he is 12 days old.

If you have not set birth time correctly, the age could be one day off. To check it, tap your baby’s profile photo, tap/double tap baby’s photo or name on the baby switch page. Tap the Day of Birth field, on the top of the date wheel, there is a clock icon, tap it to set the correct birth time.

On the main page, my Baby Tracker is showing last activity time, i.e. 5:34 AM, rather than telling me how many mins ago, how can I change it?

The time format is switched by tapping the time label, it will remain in the same format until you tap the time label again.
The time label is the area that shows the time, such as 06:12 PM, tap it, it will change to 45 minutes ago. It is a small area to tap, you have to tap exactly on 06:12 PM.

Growth Chart

What references do you use for the growth chart?

We use the child growth standards that are published by the World Health Organization (WHO).
http://www.who.int/childgrowth/standards/

Can I use the adjusted age on the growth chart for my premature baby?

Baby Tracker will use the due date to adjust growth charts.

  1. Tap the baby profile photo, then select Premature Baby to enter the Baby Info page. Input the Due Date for the premature baby.
Adding the due date allows the app to compare the date of birth and due date in order to determine the age of the premature baby, therefore adjusting growth data based on this information.
  2. Go to app Settings > Preferences, tap Use Adjusted Age for Growth to turn it on. This is indicated by showing the checkmark.
Please note, due to lack of a standard data record set, all growth records before the due date will not be shown in growth charts.

The instant growth percentage is useful. How many years of growth data can Baby Tracker handle?

Baby Tracker has 0-5 years WHO child growth standard data.

In-App Purchase

What features will I get after I purchase the full version?

The full version in-app purchase will unblock: Statistical analysis charts

Do I need to purchase the full version for all my iOS devices?

No, you only need purchase from one iOS device if all other devices share the same iTunes account. From other devices, go to Settings > Restore My Purchase. After tapping, you will be asked to log in, but you will not be charged.

Please note, the in-app purchase will not work with family share. It’s Apple’s policy, we cannot do anything about it. (All in-app purchases in the app store will not work with family share).

If you plan to use family share, do not upgrade the free version via in-app purchase, you should purchase Baby Tracker Pro directly from the app store. You can transfer data from the free version to the pro version via Data Clone.
